The senate voted 65 to 31 to repeal the discriminatory “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law. Today will go down in history as one step forward for LGBT equality.
“This is one of the best days I have had in my senate career” said Senator Joe Liberman, he went on to say, this is “Not about who you are behind closed doors, but how you do your job.” I have to agree with him, no one should be judged based on who they love. If a person does a good job they should be rewarded, if they do a poor job they should be reprimanded.
The bill now goes to President Obama to be signed in to law, then on to the Pentagon for it to be enacted. I had tears in my eyes as the votes were read and the bill passed. This is one small step towards equality, but one big moment in history.
Thank you to our politicians for listening to the country and moving us forward.
Have a Naked Day… now the military members can stand up and be naked… be truly who they are.
